Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
EMDR is a therapeutic approach that utilizes bi-lateral (two-sided) stimulation of the body to process/resolve a variety of emotional issues including trauma, abuse, anxiety and stress.  Bi-lateral stimulation can involve eye movements, audio tones or tactile stimulation. The client identifies the particular issue to be addressed, an image or picture associated with the issue, negative beliefs about themselves and what they’d like to be able to say about themselves instead.  The client is also asked to describe their feelings and body sensations/reactions when they think about the issue.  Scaling is used to determine the level of emotional upset before and after the EMDR as well as to identify whether they become more able to belief a positive statement about themselves.  Reprocessing occurs during multiple sets of bi-lateral stimulation.  This stimulation assists clients to access internal information and resources.  For more information see www.emdria.com and www.emdr.com
